Aatish baazi

\Aa-tee-sh | baa-zee \
3 0
Phrase.
0

Definition

An act of firing several fire crackers at a time. Mostly prevalent at the time of Diwali, or when the Indian Team wins a cricket match. Massive Aatish baazi is banned now in most of the states, due to the rising noise and air pollution caused by the screams (mostly curses) and farts of obnoxiously drunk people indulging in the act, while in action. Aatish baazi is also reported to cause wide noise and air pollution by itself.

Usage

Raju: Maa, itni shor kaha se aa rahi hai? (Mom, where are the noises coming from)
Maa: Beta! India match jeet gayi hai isiliye aatish baazi ho rahi hai. (India has won the cricket match and so people are having aatish baazi)

Definition

Referring to Hindi (Indians) and Chini (Chinese) as brothers. This expression was in vogue when Zhou Enlai, the Chinese Premier at the time, visited India and Prime Minister Nehru in 1960. Crowds gathered on the streets to chant this enthusiastically, but things turned a little sour during the 1963 war with China.

Though there might be some political disagreement with this phrase, who cares? Eat your Gobi Manchurian with relish.

Usage

Chu Lee - 我不知道你是否已经意识到,但你的飞行是开放 (I dont know if you have realized but your fly is open!!)
Lalprasad - Aap jo bhi kaho magar hindi chini bhai bhai hi hai!! (Whatever you say, Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai).

Usually found in rice and daal (cereals) bought from the local government ration shop. Sometimes, if not mostly, found at a construction sites or more frequently piled up in the middle of the road besides a flyover construction and thus creating obstruction and traffic jams. Usually a concoction of small stones (various sizes, colors and shapes) and sometimes sand and rubbish (not when in food though).

Baniya - Mohan ji , kaha chale apne bete ke saath? (Mohan, where to with your son?)
Mohan - Dentist ke paas ja rahein hai chotu ka daat fill-up karwaane. (going to Dentists to fill up Chotu's tooth cavity)
Baniya - Oh!! kaise hua?? (Oh!! how did that happen?)
Mohan - aap hi ki dukaan ki kankkad patthar waali daal kha kar. (He ate the adulterated cereal I bought from your shop)

Disco

\Dis-Co\
5 1
Abbreviation.
0

Definition

Not to be confused by a usual Discotheque, where people usually booze and dance. DisCo stands for "Disciplinary Committee" (and hence DisCo) which is a governing body in most of the Universities and engineering colleges across the country, for taking Disciplinary action against students involved in malicious activities like doping, beating up the guard while drunk, tease girls, ragging juniors, sexual harassement, mob fight, and oh! cheating in exams too (though that was the primary motive at the beginning). However, the primary agenda diminished as we stepped into the 21st century and most of the geek men/women now, who are out of college, brag in their facebook pages that they were once actioned upon by the DisCo, as if it were a matter of pride, and some wish that those DisCo days are back being a bit too nostalgic. DisCo has its own wannabes and its own victims who suffered for a not so noble cause. After all, its a matter of pride!!

Usage

Arun's Facebook status -
Arun Joshi : I wish those DisCo days were back... sigh!!!
Comment 1 - Akash Mishra : Dude! WTF... is there a dislike button here?

Baingan bharta

\Bain-gun | bhur-taa\
5 1
Phrase.
0

Definition

Refers to a popular dish made by burning an EggPlant (or Brinjal - in desi terms). You read it right!! Burn an eggplant, clean the burnt skin, smash and squash it with both of your bare hands, mix some vegetable oil, Mirchi (Chili), onions, and salt (as per taste) till it looks so horrendous that you would probably loose all intentions to eat it. This slimy little bastard is un-believably delicious and is known in almost all parts of the country. Best suits with steamed rice, roti (or Chapathi/Chapatti - for people who have trouble understanding what "Roti" is), and sometimes can be savored alone.

Usage

Oye Chottu!! Yar ek plate makke di roti, sarso da saag aur Baingan da bharta laga dena yaar. Aur, lassi mat bhoolna, samjha! (Hey Chottu, bring me a plate of Corn flour bread, mustard spinach, and Baingan bharta. and don't forget to bring a glass of lassi too)
