NGO

5 0
Abbreviation.
0

Definition

Short form for Non-governmental organization.

In conventional terms these organizations work on social, educational, health or any other issues and things which are traditionally the purview of governments.

In India, it takes a whole new meaning. According to Wikipedia there are more NGOs in the country than 'primary schools and primary health centers'.

The reason behind this is that the Indian government gives a large amount of funding to these organizations and they are sufficiently easy to set up with a large number of professionals ready to provide you the exact frame work required to get the funding.

NGOs can refuse government funding and by doing this they get out of the RTI net and also their actions cannot be questioned by the government.

Many politicians and civil society members head NGOs and interestingly most of these do not accept government funding and are the largest in the country.

Some useless fellows also allege that these are just fronts to launder in money or to turn their black money to white money and are operations just to dupe the public and secure wealth for a few people.
NGOs do not pay tax.

Usage

Rajneesh - So, what experience do you have as a CA?

Jignesh - Sir, I have managed the accounts of the NGOs of the top politicians of Maharashtra and members of the core commiittee of the civil society.

Rajneesh - You SIR! are sooo hired!

NCOs are the real hands and feet of the armed forces. They have tough jobs in peacetime and testing hardship in conflict with relatively low pay. Conditions improve from very hard to manageable for a Jawan as he slowly progresses into a Sergeant's rank.

Usage

Warrant offficer Warren to Sergeant Sajan: "Hey Sajan, the CO wants to address all NCOs in the evening at the training hall M, at 16.45."

NCC

11 1
Abbreviation. January 9, 2012, Word of the Day
0

Definition

National Cadet Corps, India. (Many people do not know corps is pronounced 'core')

A great organization that shows students; life exists outside of classes, movies, daus, home, and cricket too.
Most of those with a stint in NCC are forever thankful for the opportunity.

It's during NCC many boys become men, decide to serve in the country's armed forces, take to adventure sports, meet and know the diverse cultures of the country, see some discipline for the first time ever, learn to handle firearms, and Kudmis get their last chance to become porkis and Porkis to become reasonably responsible civil society members.

The hankering for extra lunch tokens, the bada-kanas, the first encounters with homosexuality and perversions, the competitive spirit, torrents of adult humor, new friendships, oh! you won't ordinarily get to do so much so early in life in so short a time.

One feels sorry for the kids who do not get to do it all. NCC is not only free, it will also widen educational and career opportunities to the cadet.
Hail NCC.

Usage

" Dai Mama, have you observed this frooti guy Vinu, he stands and walks like a man after getting into NCC. I am surprised da!"
