Definition
In a film, a role with great dialogues and strong character development.
A strange detail which appears often in Indian movie reviews. Really, you expect the author of the screenplay to back ALL the characters written into it. In the ultimate analysis, author-backed roles are few and far between in the careers of most film actors. Arguably, a decent enough film may have a maximum of one such role.
This inexplicable coinage is an accurate reflection of the current state of films released widely in India.
Usage
"You have an author-backed role in this film. How do you feel about it?"
"Mind-blowing."
"Luckily, I have an author-backed role. But in front of a legend like Mr. Dev Anand, I am nothing, no?"
