The ever present shopkeeper along every Indian road who sells a variety of goods- which will include stationary, one rupee (earlier 50 paise) toffees, chewing gum (the one with free tattoos,) the odd pair of sunglasses and occasionally some tic-tacs.

However, what they're REALLY famous for is cigarettes, tea and gossip. This fellow will sell you any number of packs, if you're a chain smoker or even a few singles to shove in your pocket so that you can write dark poetry.

They will sometimes throw in a cheap twenty rupee lighter if you're particularly interesting and will never fail to tell you about the going-ons of the neighborhood.

Usage

Vandana: Palli, man, I need a few ciggyies for tonight.

Pallavi: There's a Panwaadi right around the corner. Tell him you're a friend of mine, he'll add your stuff to my tab.

Vandana (with interest): He's the one whose daughter got married to the schoolteacher na?

Pallavi: That's the one. He might give you a laddoo too. Don't refuse it!

Vandana: Okay, okay. Thanks a lot!
