Definition

In India, "bike" means a motorized two-wheeled vehicle (motorcycle, for the most part), usually fueled by petrol. Although meant for a rider and a passenger on the pillion, a "bike" transports whole families, and on occasion, large quantities of goods (including fodder and livestock, as well as commercial merchandise). In any case, our "bike" is not the two-wheeled, non-polluting mode of transport that requires the rider to pump away with strong calf muscles.

Usage

"So, shall we go by bus to Ooty?"
"Why bus? Let's take my bike, no?"
"Ummm...mmmm..."
"What's the problem? Last week my Mrs and I took our baby for mundan to Palani on the bike. No problem."
