Definition

Any small waterway or large drain that has water flowing during rainy season and serving as a garbage dump otherwise is called a Nala.

Often Nalas also carry untreated industrial effluents and that causes the entire vicinity to stink of assorted chemicals and refuse.

Usage

Old uncle speaking fondly about his town in decades past.

" In the good old days, we used to have such beautiful trees and a small river flowing through the town. Now it is all gone. Slums have come up everywhere and the river has become a stinking Nala which the entire town uses as a dustbin. Very very sad! What days we had before."
