Definition

Peculiar and unusually loud greeting used by certain folks in the states of Southern India while using their phones/mobiles. Has it's roots in the simple word "Hello". Usually hollered rather than said by those who use it, for maximum impact and shock value. Also to inform monks in China that said person is on a call. Known to have tremendous range of travel, at times making the whole concept of a phone call completely redundant.

Warning : If you hear someone bellowing this word, chances are good that they'll continue to exercise their vocal chords at full volume. Get out of there fast if you value your ears. Seriously.

Usage

Devi (via long distance call from Gulbarga) : Amma? Amma?

Madhamma (Devi's Amma) :
HALLAAAAAAAAAAA??? HALLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
*stunned birds start falling out of trees*
DEVIIIIIIIIIII? HALLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAA? AYYOOOOO!!!
*all plant life within 1 km radius starts to shed it's leaves*
YENAAMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAA??? DEVIIII !!!!!!!!!!!!!
*dogs start to howl*
CHANAAG IDIYAAAAAAAAA????
*unfortunate onlookers get rushed to hospital for ear drum damage*
