The definitive guide to South Asian lingo

Today Google Doodle seems to be paying a tribute to Freddie Mercury. What does goodal doodle have to say? Well if you grew up in India in the 80s, every time you heard Queen, the music would be quickly drowned out by some loud desi making it a point to remind you that "Freddie Mercury is an Indian." If the desi in question is a Parsi, the same statement is said with even more gusto and pride.

Yup. Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara into a Parsi family and spent his formative years in Mumbai before moving to Zanzibar and then England. Which makes him a desi of course. We invented heros, zeros, snooker, kamasutra, kabaddi and produced one Parsi rockstar called Freddie. Jai Hind!

Parsi Porki : Ma, I want to be a rock star when I grow up just like Freddie Mercury
Mother: First finish your batasa (flour and butter tea biscuits)
