Much beloved North Indian winter snack. Means "corn-on-the-cob", often had roasted with spices, although boiled versions are popular as well.

Tastes best when purchased from the neighbourhood hawker guy, who wanders around with his four-wheel cart and enough corn piled on it to feed the masses. Each one is roasted over an open coal fire, (with the aid of an old style hand held fanning device) and then drenched liberally in lemon juice and either chaat masala or red chilli powder. The hot bhutta combined with fiery spices generates enough heat to chase the winter blues away for the next hour or so.

Usage

"Bhaiya, zaraa ek bhutta dena. Jumm ke chaat masala lagana uspar"

(Bro, give me one bhutta. Put off full chaat masala on it.)
